Comprehensive Community Plan(CCP)

(Last Updated:05/02/12)

Project Background:

The Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) process was initiated in June 2011 when a motion was passed to hire a CCP coordinator. Angel Ransom, B.Pl (also a Nak'azdli Band member) was hired in July 2011 on a 12 month full-time term position to assist in the development of the Nak'azdli Band CCP Framework. The project was first launched at the 2011 Nak’azdli AGA. It is anticipated that the first draft of the CCP Framework will be presented at the 2012 Nak’azdli AGA.

What is a CCP?

In summary, a Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) is a document created by the input and participation of Nak'azdli Band members.  It is used as a guidance tool and includes goals, objectives, projects and activities that work toward achieving our community’s vision. The plan itself will focus on the following areas: social development, natural resource management, health, governance, culture and language, economic development, housing, education and employment.

The purpose of the plan is to support in steering the community in its desired direction over the next 10-50+ years. Having an effective long-term community plan developed and implemented will help enhance healthy and sustainable community development over the long term.

Fort St. James and Area Transportation Committee:

After a few initial meetings between various local organizations and road user groups the Fort St. James and & Area Transportation Committee was formed.  The objective of the committee is to provide a forum to develop action plans that will assist in creating a healthy community through:

  • Improving safety along the regional transportation corridors,
  • Working collaboratively to identify and advocate for projects directly relating to all forms of transportation throughout the region.

The current committee members include: Joan Burdeniuk, Ross Davidson, Russ Gingrich, Tom Greenaway, Frances Honeywell, Harry Hooke, Bob Hughes, Vanessa Joseph, Greg Pichler, Angel Ransom, Leona Thomas, Gretchen Vogelsang, and Andrew Wheatley. Their responsibilities include attending any meetings, completing any assigned committee action items, and reporting updates to the thier respective organizations and leadership.

There have been multiple meetings hosted to-date to start identify areas of concerns/ interests and there will continue to be a meeting approximately once per week. There will also be committee updates provided via word of mouth, newsletters, open-houses and through other forms of media. Details on community open-houses will also be advertised through various forms of media, as they are coordinated.

Should you have any concerns/ interests in regards to road safety and/or use, please contact any of the committee members mentioned above.
